Translations and subtitles
Sånn makes it easy to reach users in multiple languages – both through content translation and automatic video subtitles.
Languages in the binder
Section titled “Languages in the binder”Each binder has a default language set when it’s created. You can also add more languages, depending on your plan:

Only need one extra language beyond what’s included? You can purchase a language pack as an add-on.
Users automatically see the content in their preferred language. If a translation doesn’t exist, the content is shown in the binder’s default language.
Content translation
Section titled “Content translation”Translation in Sånn is about metadata – titles, descriptions, and other text belonging to your content. This applies to all content types: videos, documents, images, text boxes, links, and folders.
For example: if you’ve uploaded a document (a PDF or Word file), the title and description shown in the binder are translated – not the document file itself. The same applies to images, links, and other content types. It’s the text users see in the binder that gets translated.
AI-powered translation
Section titled “AI-powered translation”From the Plus plan, you get access to AI-powered translation, which makes multilingual content fast and easy:
- Single content – translate a title or description with one click
- Bulk translation – automatically translate all content in the binder to a new language
You always have full control. AI translations give you a good starting point, but you decide what to keep and what to adjust. You can override an AI translation with your own text at any time. AI-generated translations are clearly marked so you can easily see what has been reviewed and what might need fine-tuning.
Manual translation
Section titled “Manual translation”Manual translation is available on all plans. You can write or edit translations directly in Sånn at any time – either as an alternative to AI or to override an existing translation.

Translation status
Section titled “Translation status”Sånn clearly shows the status of your translations:
- Flag icon – shows the content’s primary language
- Badge (+N) – shows the number of available translations
- Colour coding – red means missing translation, yellow means AI-generated (not reviewed), normal means validated
Video subtitles
Section titled “Video subtitles”Subtitles make your videos accessible to more people – regardless of language, hearing level, or noisy surroundings.
Automatic subtitle generation
Section titled “Automatic subtitle generation”Sånn can generate subtitles automatically from the audio in the video using AI-powered speech-to-text. Subtitles are created in the video’s primary language and ready for review within seconds.
AI-generated subtitles are marked so you always know what has been reviewed.
Subtitle editing
Section titled “Subtitle editing”The built-in editing feature gives you full control over the subtitles:
- Timeline – a visual overview of all text along the video’s timeline
- Playback sync – click a line of text to jump to that point in the video
- Editing – change text, adjust timing, split or merge lines
- Save as new language – create a copy of the subtitles and translate them to another language
Automatic language selection
Section titled “Automatic language selection”When users play a video, Sånn automatically selects the right subtitle track based on the user’s language preferences. Users can also switch manually between available languages.
